Overview
Orin is a poor girl who lives with her grandmother in the mountains. One day the grandmother dies and Orin tries to hide the old woman s death and live on her own. Her deception is discovered by a man who tricks her into working as a maid in a house of prostitution. She tries to escape in a row boat with the prostitutes, but is captured and forced into the trade. Her health deteriorates and she is almost blind. A priest helps her escape and she later becomes a Buddhist pilgrim
